Eva Ekvall, Miss Venezuela 2001 and Miss Universe 2001 third runner-up, is seen in the cover of her book Fuera de Foco (Out of Focus) in this August 19, 2010 handout. Ekvall, who appeared bald and without makeup in her book about her struggle against breast cancer, died in Houston on December 17, 2011, after losing her battle with the disease, according to Venezuelan TV news network Globovision. She was 28.
