Another rare photo unearthed by our beloved Librarian Lorriane, who's turning out be more of an archeologist than archivist. Here is a photo of Leona Gage of Maryland holding a press conference in 1957 after being dethroned of her Miss USA title for being married and having two children. Behind her is her first runner-up Charlotte Sheffield of Utah who assumed the title of Miss USA. Charlotte seems more upset than Leona. We wonder if Charlotte just realised that she would not be able to compete for Miss Universe since she did not participate in the preliminaries. 1957... the scandals did not end with Miss USA; just around the corner was the question of the real age of the new Miss Universe, Gladys Zender of Peru.
