The World Miss University 2010 was held this past weekend in Seoul, Korea. Winning the 23rd annual gala pageant was Miss England Katie Farr. First runner-up was Miss Poland Katarzyna Kuziemska. Second runner-up was Miss Korea Choi Jung-hwa. Over 50 university-age women competed for the coveted title. Katie is 23 and a graduate of Leeds University, Katarzyna is 21 and a public health student at Zarządzania University, and Kim is 25 and a graduate student in international relations at Yonsei University.
World Miss University 2010 was sponsored by Chosun Biz, a business media website in the Chosun Media Group and others. The Chosun Biz award given to an outstanding student of economics or business went to Mathilde Florin of France, a 21-year-old student at University of Lille III. The pageant commemorates the 1986 International Year of Peace. The contestants stayed together for 13 days and engaged in various volunteer activities. They also had time to experience traditional Korean culture, including a visit to Korea House in Namsan, central Seoul, to make bibimbap or rice with an assortment of vegetables and beef. Past winners have come from Germany, India, New Zealand, Nepal, Nicaragua, and the USA, among other countries.
