This coming Monday night, there will be a new Miss Italia 2009. The pageant celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. In advance of the pageant, a recent survey of 1,000 Italian television viewers showed that Miss Italia 2004, Cristina Chiabotto, is the #1 favorite Miss Italia of all time. In terms of Miss Italia titleholders who competed for Miss Universe, at #6 is a Miss Italia we remember well - Denny Mendez, Miss Italia 1996. And at #7 is Roberta Capua, Miss Italia 1986 and first runner-up to Miss Universe 1987. Federica Moro, Miss Italia 1982, is ranked #10.

To mark the 70th anniversary of the pageant, the new Miss Italia 2009 will wear a new crown! The crown contains 3,080 diamonds set in 18-carat white gold.
