Who has two Academy Awards and competed for the crown of Miss Italia? La Loren, that's who. Sofia Scicolone, who would become Sophia Loren, entered her first beauty pageant at the age of 14. Even though the minimum age was 15, Sophia's mother felt that Sophia had "filled out" enough to pass for 15. Several years later, she competed for the title of Miss Roma, where she placed as a runner-up. Film director Carlo Ponti was in the audience, and after the pageant was over, he approached Sophia and arranged for her to come to his studio to make a screen test. And the rest is history as they say. Sophia, under the tutelage of Carlo would blossom into one of the true gems of the cinema and eventually they were married.
