Times Live, 13-dec-2009: More than 3,750 people watched as Nicole Flint, a radio station employee, won the Miss South Africa 2009 title at the Sun City Superbowl. She was entering the pageant for the first time, while Matapa Maila, 24, was first runner-up for the second time in three attempts at the title. Maila was told by choreographers not to cry. Cape Town's Lisa van Zyl was crowned second runner-up. Flint is hoping to study towards a diploma in journalism and further her career in the media industry. The first-year apprentice for Jacaranda said she would leave the station and pursue the Miss SA challenge: "I have told the Jacaranda crew that if I win I will have to leave them to start with my new journey with Sun International." The prestigious 52nd Miss SA was attended by former title holders such as Claudi Henkel, Kerishnee Naiker, Megan Coleman, Thuli Sithole, Cindy Nell and celebrities such as Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Mr SA Stephen Segal and Generations actress Sonia Sedibe.
